Positive Fit Test

Hi everyone, so I have been having some trouble with my bowels, what started out with what we thought was viral gastroenteritis I had lingering issues. Cramps, and urgency to open my bowels and some pain in lower left abdomen. Dr did blood tests etc and a normal stool sample and these were OK. They then asked me to do a fit test, I was called into Dr's and told this has come back positive last Thursday the 24th. I received a call today with an appointment fora colonoscopy on 24th July. Can anyone advise on similar experience, and outcomes other than cancer, also what to expect with colonoscopy I am very nervous about it all. Thank you so much.

  • Hi CB37812

Thanks for sharing your experience so far.  My Husband just got a call from his GP his FIT test, taken as he was previously experiencing bowel problems, has come back at 315!!

He was previously taking naproxen for painful knees, he is 71, since he changed to codeine his bowels have settled down and he feels fine.

Now we go through the worry!!!!  He feels absolutely normal, no weight loss, no loss of appetite etc.  The GP said he may be offered a ct scan or a sigmoid do dah!!

We just wonder if it was a one off problem at the time of his FIT test.  Has anyone had anything similar, trying to keep calm but it has scared me.

Forgot to mention he had a full MOT done and his bloods all came back normal, woudl this be the case if Cancer was involved?

  • Hi

I was warned before a recent fit test that they are so good at detecting blood they can be really worrying when you get a positive result, if you have the odd 'pile' or fissure it will be positive, not always cancer.

It's good you are having a colonoscopy as you will get results on the day and will find out what the problem is.

  • Hi,

I've had a positive fit test too, mine was 127.

Ive got an endoscopy and colonoscopy booked for 6th July. I'm really nervous so I know how you feel x

  • Hi,

I had a positive FIT test of over 300 and they found a polyp which was removed during the colonoscopy and sent for histology which I'm still waiting to come back.

FIT test just shows blood in the stool and can mean anything really, not necessarily cancer.

hope you colonoscopy goes well, the thought was worse than the procedure x
