Positive fit test

Hello lovelies.

i am 29 years old and had problems with my gallbladder in march this year. I am waiting to have my gallbladder out but have since started losing weight without trying. Im talking about 1-2lbs a week. On top of the weight loss i have been having irregular periods, waking up with bruises. One morning i woke up to 17 on both legs. Mild tummy discomfort and tired alot of the time. My gp sent me for a fit test which i done. Within a few days later she called to ask if i was on my period at the time. I wasnt so i was instantly worried. Turns out the normal for a fit test is between 0-10. Mine came back at 781!! Thats crazy high right? Does anyone know if the higher the number the more chance of it being cancer? Im trying not to google but i cant help it! The wait for the colonoscopy is killing me!

  • Hi! I had a positive fit test (127) so not as high as yours and have been referred under the 2ww pathway. Have you been referred?

I got a call from the hospital today to say that I will have an endoscopy and colonoscopy next Tuesday. I'm not looking forward to it

It really difficult to find any info on the fit test result apart from negative and positive. The more blood that is present, the higher the number it seems.

  • Hi. Thanks for replying! Yes i have been referred to the hospital but havnt had a date through yet. The receptionist from The hospital rang me last week to tell me a dr will be in touch but wasnt sure of when. How long has your wait been? Its so frustrating and of course with covid everything is much slower but id hope with something like this they would try to make it sooner! Cant find anything online apart from as you say what positive and negative means.

i wish you lots of luck with both your procedures x

  • Thank you

My referral has moved very quickly, I was told my fit test was positive and that I was being referred last Wednesday, last Thursday I got a call from my Gp to say the referral had been sent and I would get a call the following Tuesday (tomorrow) to discuss next steps. However, I got a call today to tell me I would have both procedures next Tuesday.

The call tomorrow is to talk through the procedures and the prep for them.

Please chase the hospital and ask what's happening, they really should be getting you through the system much quicker.

Do you have any other symptoms?

  • Wow that is very quick! I think i am going to give it until maybe thursday and if i am yet to hear then i will give them a call and see what is happening.

I have had a mixture of things going on so unsure of what symptoms are to do with what. My toilet habits have always been up and down. I can be constipated for nearly 2 weeks then go regularly every day for weeks then nothing again. Stools vary from hard to soft to liquidy ect. (Sorry for the tmi).

After my 3rd baby just 10 months ago, i was left with some pretty horrendous piles too which are now gone but i keep telling myself they are probably bad on the inside which is perhaps what has caused such an elevated number of blood.

Have you had symptoms? What prompted your dr to do a fit test?

  • I went to give blood in march but was turned away as I didn't have enough iron in my blood. The nurse at the donation centre said it wasn't too low but slightly under their threshold which is quite high. Spoke to go who did bloods and said I was anaemic. We put this down to heavy periods, I took some iron and that was that.

My bowels have always been quite erratic, I tend to diarrohea rather than constipation, I get stomach cramps, mild bloating. I've always been told its IBS ‍♀️

Then I had rectal bleeding 2 weeks ago for the first time ever. Spoke to Gp following day, face to face app the day after, fit test the day after that and here we are.

I also get really loud gurgling in my stomach on the left hand side, and I pass mucus quite often, have done for years.

Have you done a fecal calprotectin test or any bloods?

  • Sounds quite intense but thank goodness they have seen to you as quickly as they have!

I am awaiting results for a stool test not sure if its the one you mention. Dr said it will test for infections ect. Have had bloods which are all ok. Haemoglobin came back 116 dr said normal range is 115 so just made it.

  • [@LouiseB2021]‍  Hey lovely. Just thought I'd check in and see how your colonoscopy went? Was it as unpleasant as it sounds? And what did they find? X

  • Hi Louise,

I’m in the exact same situation as you. Fit test result of 127, added to the 2WW pathway. How did things pan out for you after the colonoscopy etc? I pray you are good. It’s all fresh for me and my mind is racing with all the what if scenarios

  • Louise I appreciate this is an older post but just wondered what your results were x
