Waiting for Colposcopy results

Hi, I'm just looking for a bit of advice and possible reassurance for my recent biopsies.
On the 20th May I went for my smear and whilst I was there I discussed a few symptoms with the nurse I was having as I thought I could potentially be starting pre-menopause.
symptoms such as change in periods - getting heavier and lasting longer, lower back pain, bleeding in between periods and after sex. The nurse arranged for a doctor to phone me back and she suggested a referral to check the bleeding wasn't anything sinister before talking about menopause.
I was referred for a Coloposcopy on the 9th June. The Doctor took 2 biopsies. I had a couple of days earlier received my smear results and they had come back clear but whilst the doctor was doing the biopsy, he asked me if I was sure that the results had come back normal! Now at this point I should have asked why but I think I was maybe go scared to know.
he said he was going to refer me for a scan on my overies, which happened on the 11th June (brought forward as an urgent referral by the doctor) and then after that I an appointment for a hysteroscopy (womb biopsy) which I had on the 18th June.
Now I'm just waiting for the results, has anyone had anything similar done? Any idea when I could get the results. I have good days and bad days when I'm thinking the worst. It's so awful having to wait.
Thank you in advance

x

  • Hi Pinky,

Sorry to hear you are going through this - Sounds similar to my Gynecological issues...

After many ultrasounds and Gynological appointments

I was referred to have lining of my womb lazered and was found to have ovarian cysts ( which are common) but due to size I has these removed and biospy taken as standard practice.  Unfortunately the lining of womb removal was too thick so the operation failed. I believe I am Menopausal as I have extremely heavy blood loss....followed by nothing at all

I still have no resolve for my Gynological issues - other than reassurance that there is nothing sinister.

I do have bloating stomach and pain... had a Colonoscopy on 23rd May - still waitting results of this after 8 biopsies were taken and several polyps removed.

I am praying all is clear and then hope to be reffered to a menopausal specialist team for further support.

I hope you are reassured that your GP practice has acted promptly with all the necessary tests to ensure you are in good health

    Keep me posted x

  • Hi,

Thank you so much for taking the time reply. I'm so sorry to hear what you are going through, the biopsies you had sound awful.
I mean 8? I had 2 and they were bad enough!

when I went for a scan on my overies she told me there and then that they were ok thank goodness. I'm more worried about my colposcopy results, and just wish that the wait wasn't so long, I just want to know good or bad!! My stomach is also really bloated, I look 6 months pregnant, I'm having problems with my bowels too and vaginal discharge. So when you look up the symptoms you think the worse don't you!

I can't complain one bit though about my GP and how quick all the biopsies and scans were done, they have been brilliant!!

I'll keep you updated and let me know if you hear anything soon too

    xx

  • I have today received my results for the hysteroscopy, which were clear thank goodness however I am still waiting results for my colposcopy. I have also today received a letter for an appointment to see my consultant but it's not until September. Is this normal? He did tell me at the initial meeting that I had some cells which needed cauterising and this would be done if everything else came back ok. The appointment doesn't mention this so I don't know if that's what I'm having done or not. Surely they wouldn't make you wait 2 months if it was bad news?? Has anyone else had to wait so long?
