Lump in neck but blood results normal?

So I recently found a lump in my neck, it's around 4cm I'd say, so fairly large. I went to my gp who checked me all over and confirmed it's just the one. She sent me straight for bloods which came back yesterday as normal.
she wanted to see me in a week or two after my last appointment, I assume to see if it's decreased or increased in size in that time? so I'm going to go later in the week.
my blood results initially made me a bit relieved but I've read that lymphomas usually don't show in blood work? The doctor said the next step would be an ultrasound on the lump. I'm just wondering what I can expect and if what I have read is correct? Does anyone have any experience similar?

  • This has been my wife's last few weeks. She had a lump which she thought was a lymph node infection. The Dr gave antibiotics then bloods which where normal but referred her to ENT.

They felt it and done an endoscope and confirmed she had a lump which isn't the lymph nodes. Next was a ultrasound scan which she got on Wednesday which showed she actually has at least 3 lumps around 1cm so done a few biopsy's and has referred her for a CT scan on Monday.

They think it's throat cancer which has spead to the lymph nodes so looks like she will have maybe lump removed and radiotherapy ans chemo.

Im not wanting to worry you just explaining thr Dr is doing the right things and at least your getting it all checked out.  Plenty support on these websites and I've been told this is the hardest part for people.

if you ever need to chat just give me a shout

  • Thank you so much for your reply. Obviously lumps and cancer is never what anyone wants to find but the unknown I'm going through right now is obviously so hard! It's helpful to find out what may be the outcome and what the next steps may be so Thankyou! Sending you and your wife all the best!
