mammogram vs ultrasound

Hi, I wonder if anybody has a similar experience. I had my routine mammogram 3 weeks ago and got a recall which I attended today.  The letter said the appointment would take 2-4 hours and would likely involve another mammogram,  ultrasound, breast exam and a biopsy if needed.

I had the repeat mammogram and ultrasound. They said the area they were concerned with suggested possible skin changes but might be accumulated fluid.  The ultrasound didn't show anything obvious nor did the exam. However I had the impression that the repeat mammogram was the same so the first theory that it was fluid on the day that wasn't there now on ultrasound would not be right. The dr said its probably OK but in an area where occult cancer can be found and he is not happy to let me go without a biopsy. However there was no one there today to do a biopsy so I will need to go back the week after next for a biopsy.  Thoughts would be much appreciated.  A few weeks ago a ct scan showed a mass in colon but fortunately the colonoscopy was all clear, then I've been hit with this. I was so hoping today would have given me more answers but I am more confused than before I went.

  • Welcome to the forum Shepherd although I'm sorry for the confusion you've been left with after your recall.

Hopefully some of our members who have had similar experiences will share their stories and advice with you soon but if you'd like to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Fingers crossed all goes well with your biospy when the time comes.
