Dimple on underside - no lump on ultrasound

Hi all,

I noticed a dimple on the underside of my right boob about 6 months ago. Didn't think anything of it as I had lost weight and thought it was that. Then I saw an article that looked a lot like what I had and thought I better see my GP. GP referred me to the breast clinic, clinic referred me to an ultrasound. Had the ultrasound today and the doctor was very brash said he couldn't see anything and didn't know what it was. He said as it was a very clear obvious dent he would recommend an MRI as I'm too young for a mammogram apparently (25 yo). He said the breast unit would need to approve the mri and they might not as there might not be a 'clinical need'. I'm a bit worried as still no one is able to tell me what this dent is. I'm going to push for the MRI but my question is could this really still be cancer? If it's not coming up on an ultra sound. Has anyone been similarly diagnosed after a MRI but not an ultra sound? Just need to decide how firm to be as still no one has reassured me or told me not to worry about this. I just want to know one way or the other.

thanks!

  • Hello Lilyalice95

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently noticed some breast changes which have resulted in an appointment at the breast clinic.

It's good to hear that the ultrasound didn't raise any immediate cause for concern, despite the Dr's brash bedside manner. Typically women under 40 aren't offered a mammogram as the breast tissue is much denser in younger women and this can make it difficult for abnormalities to be picked up. As this Dr has recommended an MRI hopefully you will hear from the clinic soon and the MRI will give a much more detailed and clearer picture of what's going on.

If you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses for some advice and support you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
