Abnormal smear

Hi I'm new to this so bare with me...

I'm 27 years old 3 weeks ago I went for a routine smear test just under 2 weeks later i received a phone call from the hostpital saying that my smear test had come back with server abnormalities and could I come in for a colposcopy which was 2 days after the phone call... did some research and just thought it was to look at my cervix but once in the chair was informed that they was removing cells with the loop method and a biopsy to be taken...was uncomfortable but bareable got up from the chair and was told no exercise, sex tampons etc for 4 weeks.. now for my questions

1. She didn't tell me what type of biopsy I had I thought it was going to be a small biopsy but upon doing research it sounds like the cone biopsy? I have tried ringing hostpital but it's a nightmare trying to get though!!

2. how did everyone feel after this? I have felt quite poorly to the point I went to the doctors who said I had a water infection examined me and took swabs and sent urine off (waiting for results)

3. How long did you wait for results? I've been completely in world of my own and didn't really listen..

sorry for the essay aswell as feeling quite poorly im very emotional I have a 4 year old daughter and I can't shift this continua anxious feeling im not one to get ill got to doctors etc i normally just crack on when feeling poorly any advice or answers would be much appreciated

  • Hi Jojo

Its likely the doctor took punch biopsies, not a cone, while they were doing the treatment. These two things are very different, and punch biopsies take a small tissue sample while doing the leep procedure. A cone biopsy would be done under general anaesthetic.  It’s standard advice not to have anything put into your vagina for a few weeks after as your cervix heals, to avoid potential infection. Sorry, not sure how long you’ll need to wait for the biopsy results as it varies so much throughout the country. Hope you don’t have too long to wait.
