Calprotectin results and loose stools

Hi,

I am still waiting for results from the stool sample for calprotectin. I sent the sample in over two weeks ago, and I rang the doctors today and the receptionist said they were not back yet. She said the hospitals are struggling and results are taking a long time. I have mentioned before that I had blood tests that were fine and a Fit test that was clear. My previous calprotectin test was borderline. Meanwhile I am having problems on and off. I had three bouts of diarrhea three weeks ago, none since until two days ago which was not watery but very loose and floating though formed pieces. It was normal yesterday but today very loose again but not floating this time. Also the last week I have been weeing a lot, no stinging or burning and the colour looks good and clear. Just frequency.

I must add my anxiety levels are high, I have always been an anxious person but can't seem to calm down at the moment, so panicky every day. What I've read about this test worries me. If the numbers were really high do you think I would still have to wait a long time for results. Also could the loose stools and frequent weeing be caused by anxety.

Sorry to bother you but my mind is all over the place, I live alone and  just need some hope that it may not be all bad, though I know no one can diagnose on here.

Thank you for listening.

  • Hi there,

my calprotectin results took a few weeks to come back too, they were the ones I had to wait the longest for and mine were only slightly raised at 123.

I would say when all of this started and I was waiting for results my bowel habits definitely changed and I definitely think a lot of it was down to anxiety! So it's perfectly reasonable to think that's the case with you too :) it's all positive that your other results were negative so try and look at the positives here :) x

  • Thank you very much for your reply. When the doctor told me the first calprotectin test was borderline she didn't quote any figures so I don't know exactly what it was. She said it was nothing to worry about and borderline maybe normal for me, but wanted another test. I did one and then was told something had happend at the lab and they couldn't do it, so I've had to do another one. The waiting is difficult I was worried it may have gone up as I didn't have diarrhea when I did the first test, just a lot of floating stools, which I only get occasionally now. I am trying to think positive about the other tests, but I'm afraid I have a 'what if 'mind. My son is the same and says that's part of the problem.

  • Hi hope you are well did your calprotectin level ever resolve? X

  • Yes thank you. I had test a while ago and it was back to normal, and my stools are mostly normal now x
