3rd biopsy in 7 weeks

Hi there! I'm new to all of this so forgive me if I ramble on a little.

So almost 8 weeks ago I found a lump in my right breast. I've never been blessed in the bra size department, so when this lump appeared it can be felt immediately, its just atop my nipple and when I lye flat you can see it stick out. I went to my go, who made an urgent referral, and said best get it checked.

2 weeks on, I had my first app. Scan came back they think it's a fiberadanoma(sorry, can't spell it!) And did a fine needle biopsy. 3 weeks went by, I go back and they say results were its benign(yay!) but let's do another scan. Radiologist doesn't like the look of it, then does a core needle biopsy.

Today I went back for my results. I was told the biopsy was benign again, but the radiology team aren't happy with the results and disagree. The doctor has said I need another biopsy, and il get a letter through the post.

I cant help but think this means the radiology team think it's cancer, or at least borderline cancerous cells on the scan and it now feels like they are waiting to see if it gets worse. The breast clinic doctor said they will do another biopsy and if its benign again I will be discharged. But now I'm worried about this lump as the radiology dept are the ones who deal with cancer itself, so they are worried and that makes me worried.

Has anyone gone through this? I just want it taken out, I cant keep having biopsy after biopsy

  • Hi,

I realise this thread is a year old, but I am in this exact same position now, and I just wondered how it went for you Emma? I really hope that once you got the lump removed everything was fine.
In my case, like yours, two biopsies are both benign but radiologist is still concerned and I'm booked in in the next fortnight to have it removed. Guess I'm worried what they'll find and hoping that yours worked out ok and that mine will too.

    Thanks!

  • Hi nic,

It's amazing to think im now 1 year on!

When I had my surgery, they found that it was a 17mm pre cancerous mass, not a cyst. I was lucky in the sense that they took the whole mass, along with some of the surrounding tissue. I only need to go for regular check ups and no treatment(so no chemo or radiation)

My surgeon, along with the radiographer, were thrilled that they caught it in time and that I had pushed for the op. I have scans every few month, and so far nothing new has turned up! I still have a collection of cysts in that breast, but they haven't changed size or shape so they aren't worried.

I hope your surgery goes well, il be thinking of you and wishing you a speedy recovery! My tip- actually rest afterwards! I didnt tell my children what happened so I couldn't get bed rest, and it took a while to heal properly.

    Best wishes

  • Thank you SO MUCH for replying Emma. I am so glad that you are sorted and that you caught that lump early. Yours sounds like such a similar situation (even down to keeping it from my child), the doctors have said I have cysts in my breasts and that this lump is 18mm. I've been worrying for weeks having to go back and forth and you have really helped ease that by quite a bit.
I feel lucky that it is getting sorted relatively quickly and at least I will know either way.

Thank you again, I really do appreciate your response and kind thoughts.
    Take care,

    Nic

  • Hi nic!

How did your surgery go? Are you resting and healing? Did it all go well?

I'm back to the hospital in the next 2 weeks, I found another lump we are hoping its just one of the cysts playing hide and seek (not very well!) And nothing sinister, but my doctor isn't convinced. So here I go for round 2!

    Take care

    Emma x

  • Hello Emma,

thank you for checking in, it went ok, still have the stitches and bandage on until I'm back to the hospital for the results on Tuesday. Fingers firmly crossed that's it and I don't have to worry anymore. It doesn't look great but seems to be healing ok. Like you I've been too busy to rest much and not sleeping great lying in my back, so a bit knackered.

I am sorry to hear that you are back in the worry cycle. I really hope it's a harmless cyst, but you must be anxious. What date are you back? I'll keep everything crossed for you.

  • Just an update - the surgeon called yesterday and confirmed it's a fibroadanoma, and the radiologist has reduced their concern following the pathology report. It's all been removed anyway and while it's sore and tender, I am very relieved and grateful for the thoroughness of the breast care team. Fingers crossed you are ok too Emma - I'll be thinking of you.
