Arm pit tenderness with numbness down one arm

Ive had tenderness in my right arm pit for a good few months plus it feels quite hard and swollen its not pain as such just feels uncomfortable, the tenderness goes into the right side of my breast too. Ive also started to feel a dull ache around my collar bone that goes down my arm into my hand with some pins and needles. I cannot get comfy in bed whichever side i lay on. I am 51 and not had a period for about 15 months. Every  so often i also have 24hr chills where my whole body aches i feel shivery and cold but my face and neck is hot and bright red almost like flu symptoms not hot flushes i have them and its very different. I feel tired all the time ive not lost weight or anything. In Feb i had 10 days in hospital with Hypersensitive pneumonia after a reaction to my parrot i was quite poorly and was on oxygen 24 hours a day and was on steroids and antibiotics. At first i thought it could be linked but now not so sure. Ive just been to see the nurse at my GP surgery she said it was cyclical breast pain and compared it to something she had, she did not examine me and just offered pain killers. I dont feel happy being compared to something similar to what she had and have no faith in my GP having previously told me i had nothing wrong with my lungs before ending up in hospital for 10 days gasping for breath.

  • Hi [@Cazza3770]‍

I have to remark how strange it was seeing your post, I haven't been on here for days and on signing in this was the first page I came too.

I actually went to my GP yesterday as 10 days I was bitten by an insect, which we believe could have been a horsefly and I needed a course of Antibiotics, but I have been feeling worse day on day, the Doctor I spoke too actually said that she thinks that the insect bite is a red herring and that I have something else going on so called me into a face to face, my temp has been raised, and in my armpit it is tender and feels quite swollen, when she felt under my armpit it was so tender it bought actual tears to my eyes and she could see how painful it was to touch and I even said to her I knew it was tender but hadn't realised just how much, since her prodding it seems to have ramped up the pain.

I have been booked in for a blood test next week to check my inflammatory markers, as I am under the care of the breast clinic because last year they did find invasive cancer in my left breast - the armpit tenderness is on my right side - the doctor said for me to contact them direct as I would probably be seen a lot quicker, they are going to wait until the results of my blood tests come in and then make a decision on seeing me, but they are due to see me in a couple of months anyway s a yearly check up...

If you have no faith in your GP and because of your past experience it is hard to just take her word for it. it is obviously something that is really worrying you and in your writing it almost seems as if you are trying to piece together a puzzle. The tenderness could be as your GP suggested, it could also be that what you suffered with in February has caused your lymph nodes to still be on high alert - I am not medically trained so I am only guessing - I think as the doctors are doing with me and having bloods taken would be a good step for you to ask your doctors to do the same, it won't tell you what is wrong but it might point to something that they could investigate into further. It could also put your mind at ease.

    Take Care
