Ovarian Cancer

Hi Everyone,

I have just joined the forum and wanted to introduce myself, I am Clare and I'm 33.

I have been experiencing some Gynae issues for a couple of months now, initially I had some bleeding after sex, but more recently I have been experiencing lower pelvic pain which feels like sharp shooting pains on the left side, I also get back pain, constipation, mild bloating and occasionally a shooting pain in the top of my left leg.

I went and saw my GP and she suggested I had a smear, got a full sexual health screening and gave antibiotics to be on the safe side. All of this came back clear and antibiotics didn't solve anything.

She then requested an ultrasound and CA125 blood test.

I had the blood test last Monday and got the results two days later, it came back mildly raised, due to this my GP seemed concerned and she asked for the ultrasound to be brought forward. It is booked in for tomorrow.

I am really struggling with my feelings about all this. I am scared how I will cope if this is cancer, I am a single parent working full time and have my daughter to provide for and think about. But on the other hand I am worried that I am not more worried, I am surprisingly calm about everything, because I don't really feel unwell I just can't get my head around how it could potentially be something so serious and if it does come back as bad news I just don't know how I am going to take it.

Sorry there isn't too much point to this post I just needed to get all this out and if anyone is able to share their experience of being diagnosed it would be much appreciated.

  • Hello Clare,

A warm welcome to Cancer Chat. You've done the right thing to come here and get this off your chest. I hope that you will meet others on the forum who have been in a similar situation before and that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you. It's good that you are managing to keep calm about everything so don't worry about not being worried - it won't be long now until you find out more and you are right to keep calm and focused on daily tasks rather than thinking too much about it.

How did your ultrasound go yesterday? Did it all go well and did you learn anything new?

I hope you won't have to wait too long for your results and I am keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Hi Clare

i have just joined this forum and saw your post. How did it go for you? I hope your results were negative for cancer.

I have arrived here because I just received news of a raised ca125. I will write a fuller post. Very worried about the situation.

    wish you good luck.

  • Hello Clare

    How did your ultrasound go?

I had similar symptoms and they found a mass. I had a ca125 of 65 which isn't super high by all accounts but still worrying.

I am due to have surgery in next 2 weeks then they'll test it. Hopefully it's benign and all done & dusted. Hope everything goes well for you

  • I have a dermoid ovarian cyst which are usually benign. I'm due to have surgery to remove it- a biopsy will be done afterwards to check if it's cancerous. There's a small risk that it is but it's unlikely.

My Ca125 levels are raised too. I had an MRI pelvic scan after the ultrasound & transvaginal ultrasound scan.

Hope everything goes well for you.
