Terrified I have bowel cancer

Had an upset tummy last week and was passing blood with loose stools for a couple of days. Saw Gp who did tummy and rectal exam which was normal. She advised a do a FIT test and we would see what that showed.

Fit test came back today positive, 127ug.

I'm so scared that I have cancer.

I will phone GP to discuss.

Just wondered if anyone has had a similar experience?

  • Hi hun,

I also had blood and some loose stools and a FIT test that was very high and my GP thought I may have IBD but it turned out I had a polyp which I had removed through a colonoscopy and currently waiting the results!

therr are soooo many other things than cancer that is causing the bleeding that it's more likely not to be cancer if that makes sense? Try to relax and I know how hard that is but I spent many weeks thinking they would find a huge tumour and although I'm waiting on histology it wasn't the case that anything obviously cancerous was found. Take every day as it comes and be reassured that it's unlikely to be anything nasty x

  • Thanks for the replies x

I'm literally convinced now that there is no possibility of this being anything other than cancer. I have been googling and found other things it could be but I can't see any other outcome for some reason.

My Gp has done a 2 week wait referral and I will get a call from the hospital on Tuesday to see what happens next. The hospital website only mentions ct coloniscopy so perhaps that's what I'll have, although it's not the procedure I'm worried about but the result.

Really glad they only found polyps and fingers crossed your biopsy results will be clear xx

  • Hi Louise,

I know exactly how you feel! I had also convinced myself of the same and thought I would be immediately told I had cancer too. Try not to worry because stress can really make you so ill and it may be something or nothing at all. I hope your appointment comes through soon x
