Potential cervical cancer at 22

I'd just like some advice really, i saw a gynaecologist this morning in regards to endometriosis. They undertook an internal examination and noticed I had ulcers on my cervix (completely unrelated to endo) and have referred me for a colposcopy. The gynaecologist was really blunt and just said "ahh, you have ulcers on your cervix. That's a sign of cancer" and obviously I know they have to relay worst case scenario but it just really freaked me out! I also experience pain during/after sex, but I thought that was linked to endo. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? What was the outcome/treatment? I've never been for a smear test as i'm only 22. Thanks in advance!

  • Hello Olivia and welcome to the community.

As many of our members have found out, some medical staff can be a tad blunt and unaware of the impact they have when relaying information so I'm sorry for the worry this has left you with but I'm glad you've joined us as I'm sure some of our members who have been in similar situation will pop by soon to share their experiences and advice.

In the meantime, if you'd like to find out more about the colposcopy, just click here. I hope this makes it a little less scary but if you feel it would help to talk things through with someone then you're welcome to get in touch with our nurses on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to answer your questions and put your mind at ease.
