Bulky uterus and 8 months of intermittent bleeding.

Hello, newbie here, just wondering if anyone has had anything similar...?

Apologies its long winded.

I am 39, 40 next week! I gave birth to our pandemic baby in April 2020, she is 14 months old now. She is baby number 5 and apart from having a haemorrhage afterwards, and a d&c for a missed mc a few months before I conceived her, I've not had any pelvic issues before, natural births, not even a stitch.

I went onto the mini pill at 6 weeks post partum and it seemed to suit me fine. I have taken it previously whilst breastfeeding and never had issues. (With #4 I breastfed for 10 months and got my period back at 6 months whilst on this pill).

However this time, I've been spotting on and off since she was 8 months old, gushes of red blood like a full on period but it stops as soon as it starts. This happens maybe once a week, sometimes twice, or sometimes I can go for a couple of weeks and then another gush.....? I stopped BF entirely at 12 months post partum, to see if my body just needed rid of the extra hormones and to have a period. Nothing happened! Normally I'd get a withdrawal bleed within days. I spotted about 2 weeks later and after 5 weeks I got a couple of morning gushes and that was it. Then two weeks later it happened again.

So doctor has seen me, says uterus is nice and high and firm and can't see anything abnormal but is referring me for an ultrasounds bcos of the intermittent bleeding and a 'bulky uterus'.

(Also had bloods done which are completely normal, no thyroid issues, hormones as they should be, iron levels Fab! ).

She asked whether id had fibroids before but I haven't, I've literally been very healthy and lucky down there!

I am a bit worried. Bulky uterus and intermittent bleeding anyone...?

  • Hello Mamahere and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry about the symptoms you've been contending since the birth of your little one (big congrats on baby number 5 ) but it's reassuring to see that the tests that have been carried out so far have come back normal.

Hopefully some of our members who have been in a similar situation will get back to you soon but in the meantime, we're thinking of you and wishing you all the best with your ultrasound.

I know waiting for tests (and results) can be tough but I hope the tips and advice given on this page will help keep your worries at bay until you have your appointment.

    Kind regards,
