Leukaemia worries - lots of symptoms

Hi,

ive posted on here many times before. But I'm a 21 year old female who has been experiencing leukaemia symptoms for a few months.
I have Petechiae that comes and goes on my chest and neck, LOTS of bruises all over my legs. I mean to the point where they're covered in bruises.

I had a full blood count done last month and the results come back and the doctor said some of my levels are high and abnormal. He said my bone marrow levels are normal.

I already have anxiety and am so petrified I have leukaemia. I can't cope with the anxiety and I don't know what to do.

  • Hello sophiej123,

I am sorry to hear that some of your blood results have come back high and abnormal but it's reassuring that your bone marrow levels are normal. It is normal to be anxious as you are waiting to find out more as to what may be causing these symptoms and I hope you get some proper answers soon. Do talk to your doctor about your anxiety and the fact that this uncertainty is making you feel worse.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. There are some good tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Lucie,

    thanks for replying.

im really worried because I can't see any other explanation for my symptoms other than leukaemia.

does it sound like leukaemia and I think it was my haemoglobin levels that were high.

I don't know what to do, I'm so anxious. I have a therapist who specialises in anxiety but I still am so scared that I have cancer. I'm only 21

  • Hello sophiej123,

I think you should perhaps give your GP a call and ask them to explain what your results mean as you are clearly very anxious about it and deserve some answers. Unfortunately no one here will be able to diagnose you but your doctor would be able to tell you more and give you some advice to help you cope with your anxiety. Do speak to your therapist too if you feel it would help you at the moment.

I hope you find out more soon and I keep everything crossed that everything turns out fine.

  • Hi,

unfortunately I have to wait until tomorrow to call my GP.

I got my blood tests done by a private doctor and the GP who analysed my results said I need another full blood count done and he wasn't really providing much reassurance that it wouldn't be leukaemia. The only positive thing he said is that my bone marrow levels were fine.

I spoke to a nurse here via telephone and she said it's unlikely leukaemia but it's just the fact I get bruises all over my legs and the Petechiae

  • Do call your GP tomorrow morning Sophie - perhaps it would do you some good to get a second opinion and talk to another doctor about it. I am glad you spoke to one of our nurses.

    Everything crossed for you

    Lucie

  • Thanks Lucie.

I know you're not a doctor and can't diagnose me, but I was hoping for more reassurance :( does it sound like leukaemia from what you've read in the past?
