Hope to cope with the waiting

Hi everyone.

sorry for posting again, but I'm truly on edge.
had a chat with a doctor today who spoke through my blood test results, and had a feel at my lymph nodes. Bloods are normal other than low red blood cells. He felt the nodes and said most feel normal and moveable, but has referred me to have an ultrasound to check on them just to completely rule out lymphoma. After chatting with a couple of the helpful nurses on here, I've found out the blood test results could be normal but my nodes still be abnormal. The normal bloods had given me a bit of calm and now I'm on edge again waiting for the ultrasound which could apparently be a few weeks away according to my doctor.

I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on how to deal with the waiting time. I'm struggling to talk to my friends about this and how to approach the issue with them- it's a hard conversation to have when you're only 20 and all of you think you have your whole lives ahead of you. I also have OCD that centres around health anxiety so this waiting game is just being made harder by that.

Thank you to anyone who reaches out in advance.

  • Hello Stussy2021,

This waiting game is the hardest thing indeed and talking to your friends about this can be very difficult as they won't really understand how you are feeling but you've come to the right place though as so many members of our forum will have been through this waiting phase and they will know only too well how hard it can be to have to deal with what feels like an interminable waiting time.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. There are also some excellent tips on this page on how to cope while waiting for important news.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
