Cervical/Ovarian. What else could it be?

Just a rant really as I don't really want to unload on anyone close to me for fear of worrying them.

Went to drs with constant bleeding/brown discharge & bleeding after sex which had been happening at increasing rate for months, has been daily for a couple of months atleast now. All swabs are clear of infection. He thought it might be possible ectropian but sent for a ultrasound & referral  to gynaecology regardless.

Expected an internal ultrasound but it was only external. It came back borderline, showed what looks like multiple cysts on my ovaries. No mention of cervix but everything else fine. Sent for bloods which ruled out pcos.

No word from my gp since, other than updated results on the nhs app, so just waiting on gynaecology appointment now. 2 weeks left to wait. I know my referral was sent as urgent but I'm guessing not on the 2 week pathway as it was a 6 week wait.

I've been having lower back ache & period type pains that have got worse/more consistent quickly since first seeing the gp. Some days they are horrific but I have some pain atleast everyday.

I can't help feeling the gp should be doing more? More blood tests? Why if I have multiple growths on my ovaries & persistent pelvic pain havnt I been sent for a CA125 blood test? Why no internal ultrasound?

2 more weeks to wait to see anybody & I'm here racking my brain thinking what else could it be? It has to be cancer but then the lack of urgency from the professionals makes me doubt myself again.  Then I think about the ultrasound tech. She couldn't hide her concern when discussing with me what she had seen. The impression from her, not that she said it, was that if it isn't pcos then it isn't good at all.

I don't expect reply. I just need to vent

  • Hello HavingKittens,

It must be such a stressful time for you as you are waiting to find out more. 2 weeks can indeed feel like a lifetime. It sounds like the ultrasound technician's comments have made you worry even more but try not to draw any conclusions from what she said and hopefully you will get some answers when you have your appointment soon.

Perhaps if you feel that your GP should have done more and organized additional tests you could try and seek a second opinion? You can find out more about this on this page. You could mention that you would feel reassured if you could be given a CA125 test for example.

I really hope you get some clarity on all this soon and some definite answers.

    Best wishes,
