Densities on chest X-ray

Hi all,

I stopped smoking 9 months ago but over that time I have continued to cough up sputum every day and find it hard to swallow sometimes. I am breathless too. Went to docs who has asked for a sputum sample which was clear. Had a chest X-ray which I was told had densities??? Have never heard of this. I have to go for a CT scan. Over the past few weeks I have had blood when I cough and out of breath more.

can anyone tell me what densities means? And how long does it normally take to get apt through?

Any help would be hugely appreciated. I'm worried sick

  • Hi Ilovefergus,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. Firstly if you have any particular questions about what you've been told then ideally you should check with your doctor, however if you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses, you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5).

Time to wait for appointments can vary a lot depending on the urgency and the current waiting times at the hospital you've been referred to. Unfortunately waiting times can be a little longer at the moment, but hopefully it won't be long before you find out more.

Try to keep yourself busy in the meantime while you wait, to help keep your mind off things.

    Wishing you all the best,
