Colonoscopy experience

After receiving an urgent 2 week appt following positive FIT test and abdo pains yesterday I had my colonoscopy. The worst thing about the whole journey was the worry. I was convinced I had bowel cancer, my whole body totally consumed. I cried, couldn't sleep, felt weak and pathetic. I spoke to everyone about it hoping to get a glimmer of hope from their story. The next worse bit was the moviprep, horrible stuff, I bit into a slice of lemon after each glass, all doable tho. How I got ready that morning and walked through the hospital doors to my doom I will never know. The procedure itself was a doddle, bit of sedation, 2 mild prods and it was over. Small polyp. Pls don't google it heightens your anxieties.

  • Hi glad all turned out to be ok.

I've had bowel cancer twice so know the fear well.

Kleanprep is even worse than movie prep, like slimy vanilla!

    Enjoy your good news.

  • Yay for good news!! I've been referred today for an urgent colonoscopy, I have to do a calprotecin stool sample and have bloods done on Friday too.

What were your symptoms if you don't mind me asking? Mine are that I'm having more frequent movements, and a change in the stool itself. I also don't feel like I've emptied my bowels fully when I go to the toilet.

So pleased it's just a polyp!

  • Hi

in answer to your post, very much like yours. Feeling like my rectum was never empty, wanting to go more frequently in the morning, looser, abdominal cramps. To be honest I don't think these symptoms are anything to do with the polyp, that was an incidental find, though may well have caused bleeding during stool movement?

I'm pretty sure all irritable bowel as I've been under stress. The polyps been removed, i had the scope 4 days ago and this morning I feel the same symptoms. So, the way forward is to manage the symptoms by finding a method to stop the worrying. Ps I did the cal protein test too which was negative. I'm sure all is ok with you, it's a terrible anxiety provoking time.

  • It really is a terribly anxious time. I haven't had any bleeding that I've noticed so that's a positive! I was diagnosed with IBS as a teen and I'm 33 now, IBS can be very painful! I usually have the constipation type so it's quite strange for me to be doing very frequent soft bowel movements. Hopefully I won't be waiting too long for an answer anyway!
