MRI with contrast ordered but no contrast needed

Hi,

I had an MRI scan yesterday for a swelling in my thigh as well as ongoing bone pain. The doctor ordered an MRI with contrast however during the scan, they decided that no contrast was needed and said they had really good pictures.

I'm quite worried now as I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing! The nurse doing my cannula told me results can take 2-3 weeks to come back but depending on the radiologist, it can be a lot sooner.

Has anyone had similar and what was the outcome? I had an X-ray which showed an endosteal indentation on my bone however ultrasounds have come back completely normal.

Thanks!

  • Hi Sallyann91,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I would try not to read too much into that - I'm sure they will have done everything they needed to do during the scan and if there was any uncertainty then they would address this.

Hopefully it won't be long for you to wait for your results.

Meanwhile if anyone here has similar experience to share then hopefully they'll be along soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
