Wide local excision dcis

I had operation 2 days ago to remove DCIS via wide local excision left breast . I was given maximum sickness dose as suffer from sickness generals. As soon as I woke up I had arm pain and couldn't feel lower arm and thumb and finger left and was given morphine. Stayed overnight on ward had no breast pain  in hospital but was worried about numbness. Spoke to doctor who said probably got pulled nerve as arm was out during operation and told me ring breast care nurse tomorrow if still no better. When I got home the bruising side breast started coming out and pain. I woke up this morning earache left ear neck pain down to stomach feels like I have been fighting Mike Tyson. Can't use my hand and arm still. Is this normal has anyone else experienced this ? Worried as neighbor told me she had same op a few years ago and went back to work after 2 days! I am in so much discomfort. I'm taking paracetamol every 4 hours

  • Hello Lsk123alarm,

I am sorry to hear you have experienced these issues - it does sound like it would be a good idea to ring your breast care nurse for advice as it sounds like you are in a lot of discomfort despite taking paracetamol on a regular basis. Your pain sounds quite severe and it would be worth getting some medical advice on this. If you can't get hold of your breast care nurse over the weekend, do give 111 a call and explain all this in detail. Make sure to mention you had this operation a few days ago. You could also try and call the hospital where you had the operation and see if you could speak to someone.

I hope you manage to talk to someone soon and that this is all sorted and you make a swift recovery after your operation.

Our nurses are available on this free number 0808 800 4040 if you would like to talk to them or ask them anything. You can call them Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

    Best wishes,
