Mole - tingle sensation

Hi,

I have a rather unusual mole on my back, it's been there for as long as I can remember and I don't think it's changed in anyway. It gets me really paranoid and I overthink about it a lot. About 2 months ago, I decided to get it checked at the GP, the Dr checked it for me and measured it and she said she didn't think it was anything to worry about and it was fine.
This put me at ease however I still get very paranoid, I wear plasters over it to protect it from sunlight etc.

Tonight, all of a sudden, a random tingle and numbness has been in my back. I know this could be a lot of things but it scares me to think that this could be related to the mole. The tingle feeling isn't directly on the mole it's more so around the area on my back.

It's a very uncomfortable feeling and feels quite numb, I've tried a lot of things like stretches, not wearing a bra, cold compress to try and make it go away but it's still here.

I think I'm going to ring my GP again when I have finished this night shift I'm currently on as I have a bad feeling about it and genuinely think it should be removed. Not sure what I'm after here just sort of needed to get it off my chest and see if anyone's got any advice.

thanks

  • Hi,

I'm sorry you are having this worry and you are right to get it checked out again by your GP but it's highly unlikely that the tingling & numb sensation you are feeling is connected to your mole. This is not a recognised symptom of a cancerous mole - tingling and numbness tends to suggest something to do with the nerve endings under the skin and melanoma doesn't affect these. For your peace of mind though speak again to your GP and see what they suggest. Good luck and please let us know how you get on,

    Angie (melanoma patient)
