Had my full duct excision yesterday

Yesterday I had a full duct excision to the left breast after finding a lump back in March. The lump turned out to be a cyst which has now gone, but I still had brown blood from a single duct when I squeezed my nipple. Nothing ever came out by itself. Surgeon couldn't rule out anything sinister even though my mammogram and ultrasound were clear.

yesterday after surgery, I felt great, recover well and thought nothing of it. This morning I woke up and OMG, I guess the LA they added at the end had worn off. I feel so bruised and very tender, especially under my breast. I'm only small usually, 32/34A. Is it normal to feel so tender? Even the slightest touch to my breast is unbearable.
I have a high pain threshold and never take pain meds, I haven't taken anything so far, but just want to ask if it's normal to feel so tender?

also, anyone know how long I leave the clear plastic dressing in place for?  Was told by different people 2 days, and also not to take it off at all! (There's no absorbent bit to the dressing, it's just clear like cling film) it's so itchy, it's driving me nuts. It's also red looking and I'm wondering if I'm reacting to it? I have a history of dressing allergies .

  • Hi

I had a lump removed from under breast in April I was told my dressing had to stay on 2 weeks as I had disovable stitches. I did however carefully change the dressing under my arm end 1st week as it had rolled down. If you have an allergy get an appointment with a nurse at your gp surgery ask her to check and redress.

As to being tender yes it's all normal I was told to wear a sports bra as this helps and indeed it did I'm a 42D so not small. If you lay on your side at night find a soft cushion to help protect your breast.

    Hi Caz,

I'm sorry to hear of how you're feeling today. If you have any worries, don't hesitate to phone your breast care nurse. They are very helpful and will keep you right.

    Kind regards,
