Breast clinic appointment - What to expect?

Hi,

I have a breast clinic appoitment next week and as you can imagine I'm super nervous. I've read online about what tests I can expect, how long I'll be there etc. but just wanted to ask if there's any other ways to prepare?

Can I eat/drink before hand, or should I stop eating/drinking after a certain time?
Can I wear deodorant as I know some tests they reccomend not too?
Am I still okay to take my regular medication the morning of the appoitment?

Sorry if these questions seem really stupid, it's just I'm 21 so all this is incredibly new to me and really don't know what to expect.

Thanks

  • Hi [@Concernedgirl]‍

You don't say why you have a clinic appt but perhaps your GP has referred you or you've had a mammogram

However, I think the main thing is that, unless there are instructions regarding any preparation, fasting etc in the letter, you won't need to be doing anything different prior to your appt.

I hope your appt goes well, of course.  The staff will explain what is going on and, definitely, ask any question you feel you need to.  They'll all be very kind and helpful, trying to put you at ease.

    Good luck ;)

  • Hi,

Thanks for your reply and advice! There weren't any specific instructions in the letter, just general information and directions. My GP referred me (slight inverted nipple and swelling on the same breast) but I had an infected bug bite on the same breast about 4 weeks ago so I'm praying it's just a delayed reaction from that!

  • Hi Concernedgirl

Thanks for explaining further.  It sounds to me that the GP wanted a 'more specialised' opinion.

It could be just due to the infected bite, of course.  They may do a mammogram or ultrasound to check, of course.

So, back to your original question, if there were no instructions in the letter, just do your normal daily routine.. You'll be able to ask any questions during the appt, as things occur to you.  No question is a silly question :)

Do come back and post the outcome, eh?

  • Hi ChocDrop,

I hope you've been doing well! After my appoitment was an hour late I was seen and given the all clear! The doctor and nurse were both super nice and reasuring. My bloods also came back 100% normal too. I cannot explain how relieved I am that this 5 week nightmare is over!!!!
