Genital Wart Misdiagnosis?

Exactly 1 year ago I was diagnosed with a small genital wart (0.5cm) My gp gave me cream and it didn't work. She then examined me said I could do one more cycle but best to get a sexual health clinic to check it out as they'd be able to freeze it.

Due to covid I have struggled for a year to get that appt. I wasnt too stressed as I was led to believe my body could clear it on its own. I finally went this week only for 2 of the nurses to say they arent sure its a wart, said I had quite a few moles in that area so might be a mole (it has flecks of brown) and they've booked me in to see their sex health specialist dermatology consultant on Thursday to double check. However if its a mole its changed and that is absolutely a worry to me.

They said they werent overly worried as I had a colposcopy in January (CIN1) and said the ladies would've said if they were worried. Except id mentioned i had a wart for the past 6 months so im not sure they would've even paid attention to it?!

I was just wondering if anybody had experienced this? I of course googled which we all know we shouldn't do and im not utterly terrified it maybe vulval cancer and that its been sat there for a whole year without me realising.

Thanks for reading and for sharing any experiences.

  • Hi Michelle,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can understand it must have been a worry to hear them say something different. However it sounds as if no-one so far has been overly concerned which can hopefully provide some reassurance.

It's good to hear that you have another appointment coming up this week. I hope that this is helpful and that you can find out more about all this soon.

Do try to avoid Googling as it's not possible to self-diagnose and the information you find will often be irrelevant.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
