Breast size change - worried about Breast Cancer

Hi all,

I saw my GP 2 weeks ago as I've recently noticed that my left breast has increased in size. I have soreness in both breasts, and an area of my left breast is very sore when I touch it.

The GP found no lumps but has referred me to the breast clinic anyway for reassurance. Sadly, when I was 21 my father was diagnosed with lung cancer and passed away 4 weeks later. I am therefore extremely worried about the possibility of having cancer and also suffer from anxiety, although no longer take medication for it.

Can I ask if anyone has had similar symptoms, or if you have any advice about keeping calm in the meantime?

Thanks,

Amy xx

  • Hey Amy,

It's funny you write this post as I am experiencing the exact same thing, except in my right breast.

I found an area of thickening and tenderness on the upper quadrant of my right breast about a week ago. I went to my GP who told me it's a lump which moves and I was also able to find it. I went for a private ultrasound today for peace of mind, before I attend my NHS referral.

The doctor couldn't see a lump on the ultrasound. She believes this is an overgrowth of glandular tissue. As a health anxious person, I am obviously concerned something was missed, but she said she was happy with what she was seeing and to monitor it.

I really hope this gives you some reassurance at least - and do keep us updated. :)

    Take care.

  • Hey there,

Thank you so much for responding! It is definitely reassuring to know that you've had similar symptoms and hopefully all is OK. That's good news.
