Biopsy results! advice please!

After finding a lump in my left breast recently I went to a private hospital as didn't want to wait on nhs referral as first line my doctor gave me antibiotics.
I had biopsies taken and due to get results in over a week.

However my consultant called me and advised the labs will have them back early by Monday (tomorrow) so I can get an appointment to get them.

now I'm worried it's bad if the labs are advising I come to get them 4 days earlier! Obviously my consultant won't tell me anything he just said no they were done quicker so rather than waiting until Thursday I thought you could pop in to see me tomorrow!

should I be worried? I think in my head if they were good results the lab wouldn't have called to get me in earlier!

any advice please?

  • It's a catch 22 situation isn't it, early results bad diagnosis, But early results to put your mind at rest that all is well.  We always think the worst first so try and think positive, it's hard but it's easier.  Good luck and let me know what happens.  Carol x

  • Thanks! I'm worried that if it's bad they contact you earlier but not sure if that's the case. I was very emotional when I had my tests and the consultant said the labs have results early so he thought it best to go in tomorrow than have me worried until Thursday.

  • I understand as I've been through the same and mine were non cancerous. So it's as I said they're going to let you know to stop you worrying. X

  • If it's any consolation, I had a scan a couple of months ago and was told the doctor would phone me at some point with the results. A week later, I got a letter giving me a face-to-face appointment with her to get my results. I panicked, thinking that if they were asking me to come in when they had previous said she would phone, there had to be something she wanted to discuss with me, presumably something bad. I rang up to ask about the results and she rang me back, said everything was fine, the scan was completely clear, the change was simply because with coronavirus numbers falling, they were resuming giving results in-person. I know that is a completely different situation to yours but just wanted to say that I know how tempting it is to trying and read into anything but that often there is no big reason for these changes and they might not suggest anything one way or the other.

  • I know it might not be. I went private so the clinic is only open on a Tuesday and Thursday. The biopsy was done on Tuesday and they told me to come back the following Thursday because Tuesday would be too early.

He said the lab informed him on Friday they would likely have results on Monday and he asked if I want to come in and get them at the hospital with another Dr instead of wait until Thursday. Which was nice of him but I'm so worried, part of me thinks if the lab had good results they wouldn't have contacted the Dr straight away so I'm worried it's really bad.
