Worried About Tongue Cancer

Hi everyone

Sorry to post again, I think I may not have posted properly last time.

Just wondered if any of you have had a lump on the side of your tongue? And what it turned out to be?

Like many of us, I have been Googling and it always ends up as cancer! I need to phone the doctor and possibly send a photo or get an appointment - not sure what they will want. It is so difficult at the moment and I also have to arrange transport as my husband has been ill and can't drive etc.... so getting myself in a bit of a state!

Any experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all

  • Thank you again Colin.

I do hope your wife is okay! My cousin, best friend and another friend has had pancreatic cancer so I know how terrible this particular cancer is too.....Please tell me how your wife is. You sound so calm and focussed, you must be a great help to your wife. I'm usually calm on the outside (if not paddling like mad under the water) and have had several cancer investigations, but this one, I am more terrified of than ever before. I believe it is because of where it is, because of the op, the disfigurement, and the life changing affects it has on people. I have been doing research (not Google this time) NHS etc. and patient stories....it is indeed a horror story, every time.

My husband has been in and out of hospital for the last 6 months as he had a massive seizure and they told us he was unlikely to recover. He did. We don't know how. It was a miracle as when we had our video call (myself and our two children) I could see he was close to death. Anyway, that is why he cannot drive now, because of the seizure. And we can't walk to the surgery as we live in a village with no doctor and our surgery is a 20 minute drive away.

Thank you for getting back to me. You are clearly very level headed. I will try and ring this week and see what transpires.

I truly hope your wife is alright!!! I know, from experience with my friends and family, how awful this particular cancer is too.

p.s. apart from speech difficulties after the op - it is difficult to eat, drink, chew....oh and so it goes on! And, as you may have gathered from my name, I play in a band (albeit not for the past year of course) and sing harmonies. I would never be able to sing again. I know I am thinking the worst, but it's 50/50 isn't it......I need to research as, if the worst does come to the worst, I know that, being alone in that room when they tell me (and Covid restrictions, we still cannot have someone with us) I would not be able to hear or digest what they would be saying.

  • Hi Bassplayer,

We are aware that you have been posting questions numerous times and have been asking for quite detailed information from other members in an attempt to diagnose yourself.

As many people have already explained, you need to contact your GP. You really won’t find answers on a cancer forum and all it is doing is fuelling your anxiety. We do acknowledge that you are dealing with very real symptoms but nobody here can diagnose you. If you ring your GP and explain about your transport issues they will advise you on the best way of getting seen, or you can always ring NHS 111 for advice.

In the meantime, try to stay away from cancer forums and from googling your symptoms as it is only making you more anxious.

We have now locked this thread.

We wish you all the best,
