High fit result and bleeding from rectum

Hi, I'm new to this and looking a bit if advice. I've been bleeding from my back passage for over a year and a half. I'm 38 and female. Over the past year I've become extremely windy and it's not pleasant! Also, bowel movements would change, would be constipated for a few weeks and then go to running to the toilet about 4/5 times a day. I had spoke with the doctor since I started bleeding as I thought it was maybe piles and they gave me treatment. This didn't help do I seen the doctor nearly a year ago and they couldn't see anything. They referred me a year after my bleeding started as urgent but waiting lists are do long. They diagnosed ibs too but mentioned ibd. Anyhow, I've also noticed a few wee clots, they would be dark red. My bleeding would be dark red, brownish. I would have pain to my left side at times too, crampy and I'm really tired, sickish and dizzy at times. This is more recent though. I got sent a fit test about a month ago and then last week got a phone call to ask if I would attend the hospital the following day for my initial appointment which I did. My fit test is over 400 and he done and examination and referred me for a colonoscopy, it's happening in two weeks. It all seems to be happening very quickly and I'm now very worried as it seems very rushed. I had thought it could be haemorrhoids but now I'm starting to think otherwise. Has anyone had something similar? I want to be prepared.

  • Hello Kirky132,

I'm sorry you've had these symptoms. It's important to keep your doctor informed of any changes, but please try not to worry. When you are worried that you may have cancer it can be tempting to overthink, but this can end up increasing anxiety rather than making you feel better. And the only person that can diagnose you is your doctor. There is some information on colonoscopies here, which I hope will make you feel more prepared and don't be afraid to ask your doctor any questions you might have.

    I hope this is helpful,

  • Hi kirky132 sorry to reply to such an old thread but I've seen a few of your posts and I'm in a similar position. Bleeding for 3 years, recent fit test of over 400 and had urgent colonocopy which was clear just a small area of inflammation near the rectum and so a biopsy was taken. Initially the biopsy wasn't confirmed as chrohns or ulcerative colitis just moderate proctisis that appears to be chronic (as in been there a while) After no follow up I chased it with my GP and finally just spoken to a speciliast today to talk through the biopsy and he thinks its a very mild form of ulcerative colitis as the bleeding is every day now. I've been prescribed some suppositories but wondering how you are getting on? I feel like I've not really been given much information and as they initially ruled out ulcerative colitis part of me thinks they are just saying very mild just to give me some kind of diagnosis of some kind. Have u had any luck with the suppositories?
