19 year old with a mass on my ovary

Hi, I'm 19 years old and have been refered to the hospitals cancer pathway. I have a 9cm mass on my right ovary which is solid with some vascularity. I am waiting to have my MRI next week. The doctor has sent me for blood tests for tumor markers and I am waiting for my results. I am scared about what it is. I also have mental health problems and Autism so I am struggling a lot with the uncertainties. I was wondering if someone else has had a similar experience to me and if they remove the mass throuh surgry and hopefully somone to talk to to help with my worries.

Thank you

  • Hello lowlo77,

A warm welcome to our forum. You are certainly very young to have to go through all these tests and I can imagine this is a very stressful time for you as you are waiting to have that important MRI next week. The blood test your doctor sent you for is probably the CA125 and you can find out more about this test on this page. It's worth bearing in mind though as mentioned on that link that "the CA125 can also be raised for other reasons that are not related to cancer" so do not be alarmed by it.

I can imagine that it must be a really hard time for you not knowing what to expect especially as you mentioned you struggle with autism and other mental health issues. Do talk to your doctor if you feel you need help or emotional support while you are waiting to find out more.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can, stick to your normal routine if it helps you and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
