Worried but hopeful

I'm 30, no kids: I'd put off having my smear for over a year just due to COVID. Prior to this I'm completely regluar due to family history; I'd even started having smears earlier than the norm.

I've recently had my smear and have been having lots of irregular bleeding, discharge and pelvic pain (although the pain is not unusual for me). The nurse and subsequently a doctor saw a black spot on cervix, the doc also found an ulcer there.

Swabs came back normal but Dr thinks it may be erosion/ectropion and referred me to Colposc.

I have had my appointment through, it's 4 weeks away. I'm trying not to be worried but I've had different pelvic issues for years and with my family history too I'm quite scared. I'm hopeful that Dr think's it's something else but secretly worrying day and night.

Thank you all for your posts and showing kindness to eachother.

  • Hello!

I just wanted to say hi as I had same issues as you as far as symptoms go. GP examined me (not due smear until November and all previous smears clear), they could see blood, dark discolouration and what they thought was an ulcer- referred me for colposcopy. I got a call from hospital the next working day and had the colposcopy that week. The colposcopist did not mention the discolouration, area they were looking at bled to touch and they took a biopsy. They said it is likely cervical ectropion. I had this done a week ago today, results come in the post or by phone up to 4 weeks.

It is very worrying, especially all the waiting. I found a site called Jo's cervical cancer Trust helpful as it talks all about smears, colposcopy etc etc.
