Colonoscopy..bleeding... pain...37

So I'm here because I've got a dreaded colonoscopy to be booked . I went to the gp because of 4 months of bowl issues awful diareah ...pencil thin slimy and some pain also although I'm not anemic I keep getting odd dizzy spells ......after a home fit test detected blood I rang the gp as you can't really get to see one she arranged another fit test and that also picked up blood so two weeks later just had an call to decide should I have colonoscopy her advice was as I should and I should also have it under sedation as I've had a c section 8months ago it could be painful.

I was hoping not to ....as I've not told anyone about test etc I was hoping maybe stupidly to have gas and air drive home and just have something simple!! As I'm the go to person in the family need a lift ...floor laying, shopping ,appointments literally I'm that person!!

So today tmi but went to the loo after having discomfort in early hours as normal went but for the first time noticed blood but red surely that's more likely internal piles? But would that cause all other symptoms????

As they are ringing to book a test within the next 2/3 weeks do I need to let them know of any changes If it happens again?

I've been randomly treating myself prior to speaking to a Dr with anything that I thought could help keifr ...buscapan....even wormed myself!!

It all just so embarrassing coupled with the dred that I'm 20 stone so already feel embarrassed ....the one symptom I don't have weight loss !!

To be honest not sure what I'm looking for here ....just venting!!

I'm also pretty sure after having babies naturally to I've been left with a rectocele could that cause issues?

  • Hello Ava.scared,

If you're worried about any symptoms, it's good to keep your doctor informed and make sure they address all your concerns at your next appointment. It might help to write down any questions you might have and take them with you to the appointment. You can also read more about colonoscopies here.

  • Hi Ava

Not medically trained but have had 3 colonoscopies and the worst thing is the preparation the day before and morning of depending on time of procedure. Once you're in and having the actual colonoscopy, you've done the worst part! I've heard so many people say this!

I too have bleeding, anaemia and other GI issues. They found a polyp which if hadn't been removed MIGHT have become cancerous over the next few years, you do not feel the biopsies or polyp removal at all. You may not have any of this, may be nothing, may be something that they need to sort, but either way, its not as bad as the worry beforehand or the preparation! Be prepared for a day on the toilet with lots of wipes, softener, a good book and no guests!

Very best of luck. It's all over before you know it. Often tell you what they see. If you don't have sedation you can watch it all on the screen, gross but i always watch! But sedation is an option too of course

    Best of luck
