Armpit lump

I had a lump in my armpit since September 2020 went to breast clinic today doctor felt lump and did ultra sound she then told me to go home I dont need to speak to the doctor everyone else there got there results today and I still dont no what this lump is no one has told me anything

  • Thank you for your reply, I'm 27.
she did mention diabetes aswell, my family history is riddled with cancers, last year around similiar times both me an my dad were having biopsy's because of suspected bowl cancer (that camera ain't fun without the needle).
but even though there's so many cases it's like they don't care and that doesn't matter.
I just want it all to hurry up, I'm trying to stay distracted and have been overly happy waiting for my new fancy fridge freezer so keep trying to change the subject to that when people have been asking me about it all, my mum just makes me worry more because she just talks like I'm going to die (she's useless in these situations haha)

ive already decided if the heating up an feeling faint carries on I am going to go a&e because that one isn't normal at all and I can't run the risk of actually fainting on the street with my kids on the school run.
mot doesn't help that I am just so impatient.

  • Hi Jolamine,

Thank you again for your help. Yes, I went to the clinic back in March for some tenderness and they felt both and sent me home right away. The GP checked my left one yesterday, as that's the side where the armpit lump is. She said that the breast was just nodular.

I wish that it was something less sinister, like a cyst or thickening, but when I research, it says that cysts would make the armpit red or hot. She checked that yesterday at it was all normal temperature, but when she was pressing on the lump, it hurt so much I could barely sit there. Its shape is troubling me too, as it isn't like a pea or bean, it's like a strip/ridge. I am so sorry for keeping on and repeating myself. I'm trying so hard.

If it was the worst, I'm trying to face that I might not have the future that I have worked hard for. It just keeps making me cry so much.

UPDATE: I got my appointment through today . I've got it on Monday. I feel like that's too quick? I feel like they must think it's bad if they're having me in this quickly

    Frankie.

    Hi Frankie,

Many ladies have naturally lumpy breasts, which would account for your Gp's 'nodular' finding. Please try to steer clear of 'Dr Google', until you know what exactly is amiss, as this will often give you incorrect information and only scare you further. I am not a doctor, but as far as I know, not all cysts show an increase in skin temperature.

Please don't worry about how quickly you've got your appointment through. This certainly doesn't indicate anything untoward - just that you are lucky to get it through sooner rather than later. Many clinics are playing catch up due to Covid. They also get a number of cancellations and they try to fill as many of these as possible.

As to the future, you are getting way ahead of yourself here and need to look at all the positives in your favour. A cancer diagnosis doesn't always mean that everything stops. This is one of the most treatable form of cancer nowadays.

I have had 2 bouts in the past 12 years and I still manage to live a busy and fulfilled life. Also, if it's of any consolation, the only large lump that I had, which felt like a long strip, turned out to be benign, but 2 tiny lumps were cancerous.

I am glad that you don't have much longer to wait and worry. Try to keep yourself busy over the weekend and whatever, you do, stay away from the internet.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Lawl,

At 27 you would come into the younger category who are less likely to get an untoward diagnosis, so you may have to push that bit harder to get taken seriously.. I can fully understand why you want all tests to be over and done with and then get some reason for your symptoms, but unfortunately you'll just have to be patient - we all have at this stage.

I hope that your fridge/freezer has arrived and is fulfilling all of your expectations. Try to be more positive when talking to your mum. You will find that a positive, but dow to earth attitude will help you too.Breast cancer is one of the most treatable forms of cancer nowadays, so, even if the worst should happen, there is a good chance that you could still be here for many years to come.

I myself have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 12 years and I am still leading a busy and fulfilled life - all this despite having lost my mum to breast cancer and having Diabetes myself.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Lawl,

I am sorry to hear about this other lump. Have you got a date to have your bloods taken yet? You must surely be about due.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I do appreciate them.
