Liver mri

I have had a MRI which come back as indeterminate focal restriction area 6  right lobe liver, which can't be characterized as unequivocally benign, and have to have a surveillance MRI in 3 months  I received the news in a letter.... I've not spoken to anyone trying not to worry but the same thing happened with my dad and he has liver cancer anyone know what this is?

  • That is so annoying, hopefully wont take long before you get the results, my next mri is sometime in nov/dec, my next outpatients appt is 17 dec, hope that doesant happen to me. I had an outpatients appt a month ago and it's still undetermined, but they think its caused by an infection or an abscess, worrying when they cant know for sure, but seem confident it's not cancer. Have diagnosed me with PBC, Primary Billary Cholongitis, autoimmune disease, where my body thinks the liver bile ducts are foreign objects and attacks them. Now on medication for rest of my life for that, which should slow the disease down.

  • Well I have a bit of an update I had my 2nd scan , telephone appointment a wk later 17th Aug  but Dr didn't have update .so last wk I phoned Dr who said had sent another referral from the 2nd scan...i phoned the hospital the referral went to who told me they had not received any referrals..on Monday my hospital phoned back to say due to a technical error no referrals had been received so done again so hopefully an appointment will now arrive nearly 5mth after first referral...stressed is an understatement

  • Gosh what a mess.

I had a clinic face 2 face appt end of July. They have diagnosed me with Primary billary Cholongitis, an autoimmune disease, where your body thinks your liver bile ducts are foreign objects and attacks them. I'm now on medication for life for this condition.

They think the condition caused a blockage, which caused the 2cm 'probable', liver abcess. I have a follow up mri on 3rd November.

So your saying you had  the 2nd scan, but as ur dr didn't receive the report when you had a tel appt you need another tel appt with your consultant?

Or do you mean you have a referral to another department?  If so, which department. I am a bit confused x

  • After my first scan it was referred it to another hospital back in may, I then had a follow up scan in August again referred to  this other hospital once he finally got the results on 19th Aug, I phone that hospital as I've had no appointments from them at all they said they had no referrals.... so went back to my consultants secretary who after some investigation found out there had been a technical error and none had gone...so referral to the freeman has now been done  so 5 Mt later I'm still waiting.

Will tablets keep your condition fully under control?

  • So the referral to another hospital, is that a referral to a consultant to look at your mri results?  Then your hear the results?  It sounds very complicated way to do it.

I have an mri, the consultant looks at it within 2 weeks (no referral) then I book on for a clinic appt to discuss, which may be several weeks.

Yes the tablets are an bile acid which should sort it out, only been on them for 2 months, they will do blood tests in a couple of months to monitor if the med is helping. The condition does give me terrible fatigue & a sensitive tummy.

  • My original consultant and radiologist have reviewed the MRI results , they have gone to a specialist hospital for Liver to be discussed by the MDT. Team  to discuss treatment plan

My dad goes there for his liver cancer.. I am none the wiser as to the plan..I just no it should have been in place 4-5 months ago...just hope I get my appointment soon.

Really hope your tablets help,... your sensitive tummy may settle once your body gets used to them but  fatigue is awful, look after yourself x

  • Im with you now.

Keep chasing that appointment and let me know what they say.  It can take a long time to get a diagnosis. I waited about 6 weeks for my diagnosis since the first mri.

Take care and keep me updated please xx
