Amelanotic melanoma

Morning all,

I'm hoping someone might have been in the same boat as me and have some advice to give before I drive myself crazy with worry!

I've had for probably the best part of a year a red/slightly purple patch on the back of my shoulder, it isn't sore, doesn't bleed and is smooth to touch. The mark sits directly under my bra strap, more under the ring part of this, so for the time I've had the mark I've put it down to the bra.

However, the mark is permanent and does not go away, even at night and is no better in the morning. My grandad has recently been diagnosed with another bout of skin cancer and naturally I'm now worried about this.

I've got a doctors appointment on Monday so obviously will be asking them then but wondered if anyone has experienced this before and could shed some light. Google is my worst enemy at the moment so instead of trawling I thought I'd post in the place that isn't designed to convince me of the worst haha!

Thanks everyone, take care

  • Hi,

I had a pinky red patch looking mole that I got a dermatologist to look at via a photo during height of pandemic when it was hard to get an appointment, I was panicking because I have a history of advanced melanoma, he confirmed it could be amelanotic, basal cell or keratosis. I had it removed last year after a long anxious wait and it was lichanoid keratosis. So try and stay calm (easier said than done I know) until you know as it could be something completely harmless.

    Good luck x
