Worried about being referred for colposcopy

Hi, its my first time coming to this forum, I was wondering if anyone has has the same experience, I have been bleeding irregularly for around 14 weeks now, I was referred for an ultrasound which came back clear and had a cervix examination 3 days ago where the doctor has seen 3 cysts at one side and around 10 growths at the other,  all my smears are up to date and have always been clear. I had a baby 11 months ago and im petrified as I've been red flagged for a colposcopy with the doctor suggesting it could be cervical cancer, thank you for reading xx

  • Hello Dex12,

A warm welcome to Cancer Chat. It is reassuring that your ultrasound came back clear and that all your smears have always been clear. It's good though that the doctor spotted all these cysts and growths and that they are being thorough in carrying out these investigations.

I can imagine you must be really anxious though and I hope you won't have to wait too long for the colposcopy. There is information on our website on this page on the colposcopy which I hope you will find helpful and which will help you prepare for your appointment.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
