Painful gland in neck

Hi so I'm not even sure if perhaps I'm just worrying over nothing. I hope I am.

For a couple of months now I've had the gland on the left side of my neck hurt. It hurts for a couple of days, doesn't seem to swell and then goes away for a couple of weeks. Rinse and repeat. And I think (but I'm not sure if I'm imagining it) that it's slightly harder for me to swallow and I feel like there's something inside my throat on the left side near my collar bone. I have always had difficulty swallowing pills (I have a goiter) and would bet that every time I can feel it stuck in my throat. I finally talked to the doctor today (phone call).

The doctor wanted me to come in today and said I was on her urgent list to contact. But I couldn't go in today because I have small children and couldn't do anything at short notice. I'm going next week (Wednesday) for an examination and to pick up blood test forms.

Does this sound sinister? I'm worrying a bit. She said that rarely these can be symptoms of blood disorders but she would expect the gland to swell. Thank you!
