Moviprep vs picolax - hints and tips needed!

Morning everyone!

i have symptoms of bowel cancer (positive FITT test and lump found during GP examination). I was referred to hospital for colonoscopy for further investigation.

today was my colonoscopy day, and it's been cancelled as I had a nightmare with the Moviprep yesterday  and the hospital don't think my bowels are empty enough.  I'm so so gutted. Especially after 5 days of prep on the reduced diet and self isolating.

The nurse said my body doesn't agree with the moviprep. I drank the first litre at 8am yesterday. Tasted grim but did the job. Drank half of the second litre at 5:00pm and then just violently vomited it up. Tried again at 8:00pm - violent vomiting again twice as soon as I drank it (I was amazed how much liquid was inside me!). So i haven't kept enough down for it to do its job.

has anyone else had bad experience with moviprep? And any tips for picolax? I'm dreading going through this again, on top of being anxious about my results and now how long I will have to wait for rescheduled appointment.

  • Hello AnonLF,

I am sorry to hear your colonoscopy was cancelled because of your experience using Moviprep. It does sound like it didn't agree with your body and caused this unfortunate vomiting. I can understand why you wouldn't want to have to go through this again and I hope that Picolax will do the trick without you having to experience these side effects.

I thought I would mention this thread by [@Tesseffie]‍ as it mentions that she had the Picolax in September and that she suffered no adverse reactions to it. Feel free to respond to her thread if you wish and ask questions about this.

I hope you won't need to wait too long for this rescheduled appointment and that this time it all goes smoothly for you and you can get this colonoscopy done.

Keeping everything crossed for you for good results. Let us know how it all goes for you if you get a chance.

    Best wishes,
