Lump in neck & swollen lymph node

I hope someone can give me some advice... im 19 years old and had noticed a small lump at the front of my neck about 3 weeks ago. It seems to be hard, painless and doesn't move side to side, however it seems to come in and out at times making it seem like it's gone and then appears again! I'm very worried as I've also noticed my right gland come up big, i have always suffered with big glands due to tonsillitis but I have no other symptoms right now. I know I should go to the doctors but extremely scared to what they could say. If anyone has some advice I would greatly appreciate it x

  • Hi

There are a lot of us that have had neck swellings and glandular swellings. Mine started with a lump on my neck just under ear and after MRI, biopsies and finally tonilectomy came back as necrotising granulomatous inflammation. A friend has unfortunatley come back as cancer. Most of us think and dread the worst and the waiting for tests etc are always the hardest. Remember though that 9 out of 10 are just some sort of inflammation and it is uncommon in younger people so there is always hope. Be positive and as my friend says stay strong. Hope all turns out ok x

  • Hi I'm new to this and I don't really know how it work but anyway im 23 and I have a lump in my neck just below my ear an I'm really scared my dentist told me I have an infected tooth but I've had the tooth removed and the lump is still there

  • Hi

Most lumps are due to infection but should be checked out by your doctor so if it has not disappeared or is getting bigger then I would go to your doctor. The chances of it being an infection are great which is hopeful but the doctor can refer you to ENT just incase and they will do some tests. I was referred to the ENT as an urgent case and can talk you through any tests. Lumps that are infected can take a long time to go down especially if they involve the lymph nodes as mine does so the best thing is to try and not worry. It is always difficult when you develop something like this because it is the first thing we do is worry but always have hope. There are good cahnces it is nothing to worry about x
