Breast surgery

I have had a lump for 3 years, biopsy confirmed fibrodonema, fast forward, 6 months ago it grew in size and very painful, I had another biopsy, I was called in for results 2 weeks later which they said there had been some changes and can't be sure if it's a phylloid and turning malignant, I was told to go home and immediately isolate for surgery on the 18th, I have had the surgery, came home yesterday.

On paper it says b3 excision.. What does this mean?

They removed the 33mm lump, they cut me under the side of the breast and pulled tissue from my side to replace the gap.

It was extremely painful, I had 3 severe panic attacks in recovery because the pain was so bad, I was sick and caused the attacks.

I am going back to see the surgeon on Monday to check the wound.

They are testing the whole lump and results will take 2 - 3 weeks.

I'm left feeling confused now, is it cancer? Would they have been able to tell from the surgery? What does B3 mean? Do they know more than I do at this stage. I am on 32 years, I would rather know than not know.

  • Hello Scaredpatient1188

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had some breast changes which have meant you've had surgery. I hope that you're feeling a little more comfortable. Do keep on top of things by taking regular pain relief.

Phyllodes tumours are rare and most are non-cancerous (benign) but it important that the team are able to check this and hopefully the results that you have in the next few weeks will give you some reassurance.

You mention that you have an appointment on Monday with the Consultant and I'm sure they will be able to answer some of your questions which will hopefully leave you feeling less anxious about things. However, if you'd like to chat things through with one of our nurses for some information and support you're most welcome to give them a call. They're available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi I just thought I would give an update in case anyone wants to find out more information if they go through the same.

After the first surgery it came back with still bad tissue I had to have a second operation, using the diap flap procedure which is fairly new.

I have just had the results back and the second surgery was a success and I am now waiting to have radiotherapy.

Mine unfortunately was malignant, but things seem to be improving

Now to get through the radiotherapy
