Raised platelets

Hello everyone. After a routine FBC my platelets were raised around 650. I had more tests the weeks after and they were still raised around 650-750. 
I had a CRP test and that showed no signs of inflammations

iron studies shows borderline iron overload

cell markers test was the most recent test and on my notes it said "cell markers abnormal consistent with myelaproliferative disorder"

heamatology said they would be in touch. I had not heard anything for 3 weeks so I called them and they said that they had sent to my old GP an urgent referral and to start taking low dose aspirin. They sent the letter to my new GP and last week I got my letter to say I had been refered to heamotology and if I had not heard anything by the 19th of may to contact them. Today I called and I am on the waiting list and it's currently a 40 week wait which is going to be next February. 
 

Now im really worried if it was an urgent referral why do they not want to see me for 9 months? 
Is this normal? 
I'm considering going private which I can't really afford to do but I am just so worried.

    Hello Cloren17, 

    This sounds rather odd. As you can see on this page from our website, an urgent referral normally means that you should be seen by a specialist within two weeks. Coronavirus may have delayed things slightly but a 40 week wait sounds a bit too much! Before you consider going private, I would give the GP a call just to double check that there hasn't been an error in the system and that they haven't accidentally put you through as a non-urgent referral. Do give them a call on Monday and explain that you were told that this would be an urgent referral so you don't understand why it will take 9 months to be seen. 

    I hope you get somewhere and find out soon what happened.

    Thankyou for responding. I actually spoke to my GP yesterday who told me I had the jak mutation (or something like that) and I have essential thrombocythemia so at least i now know for sure! Also he said 40 weeks doesn't seem right and he was going g to follow this up so Im quite satisfied now with this new information :happy:

    I'm glad to hear that you've been able to speak with your GP and get some answers along with a diagnosis. It's good to know that he will be following up on the delay as well.
