Breast dent with lumps and shoulder pain

Hello everyone,

I'm hoping someone may have had similar symptoms to me that turned out to be non cancerous. About 12 days ago I noticed a two inch dent line on my left breast. I knew it wasn't there a month ago so I contacted my GP and made an appointment and saw her 4 days after. The day before I saw her, I then noticed 2 small lumps poking out of the dent. So I see GP she acknowledges dent and lumps and refers me to breast clinic which I now have an appointment for on the 28th May. My left breast is feeling very heavy and painful and the pain is now radiating into my underarm, shoulder and neck. I keep thinking, I'm only 37, it must be a cysts or something but I had a cyst when I was 18 and this feels nothing like that. I'm a mother of 4, my youngest being 3 years old, have breast fed so have experienced changes in my breasts but nothing I can compare to this. Also both of my father's sisters had cancer one aged 49 inflammatory and died and one aged 66 and metastatic. Sorry for the essay I'm just feeling so emotional xx

  • Hello Reb14

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently noticed some breast changes which have resulted in a referral to breast clinic. I know how worrying this time of waiting for your appointment can be and it's natural that you're feeling emotional and anxious about things.

I'd encourage you to give our team of nurses a call. I'm sure that they will be able to offer some advice and support ahead of your appointment. They're available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

It can be really easy to let your mind race ahead thinking of all sorts of outcomes. Try to take things a day at a time and remember that the majority of people referred to breast clinic are not diagnosed with cancer.

Keep in touch Reb14 and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello, I thought I'd update you after attending my first Breast Clinic appointment yesterday. I saw the consultant who looked at and felt my breasts. She could see the indent and thought it may be Mondors. She then sent me to have an ultrasound and the radiographer said what she could see wasn't typical of Mondors as I have two threads that aren't long and normally it's long with beading. She took two biopsies and then I was seated in a side room and said the consultant would like to talk to me. The staff were so kind, made me a cup of tea and brought biscuits in. When the consultant came in she said she wasn't going to hide from me that this could be cancer, be it early stage and treatable. She gave me a date to come back to discuss my biopsy results. I didn't want to push for answers as I know they don't have the results to be 100% but surely,  a consultant wouldn't say that if they weren't 100% convinced it wasn't Mondors? I'm preparing for the worst. I haven't told my family what she said, they just know I had biopsies and another appointment for results. Can someone give me any hope?

    Thank you
