Lump in groin

Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone would be able to give me some advice as I have searched endlessly for something similar and I'm making myself paranoid but I just need to ask people if they have had anything similar.

I'm 26, almost 3 weeks ago I noticed a really hard lump in my groin area, I was shocked as it wasn't there the day before and I was as big as grape. I rang the doctors and she was happy to have a look, she explained it's a swollen lymph node and she checked my armpits, neck for more swollen nodes and there were none. She checked my stomach to see if she could feel if my spleen or liver were swollen and they weren't. I felt fine in my general Health but to be on the safe side she wanted to get my bloods done and also refer to me to heamotogoly. so I got some blood tests done got my results and everything was clear, no sign of infection. Since I've saw the doctor, I am so tired, I only work part time, have a family to look after so generally busy but I'm feeling drained and I'm sleeping really well so I can't blame it on lack of sleep. Since then the lump has gone down, it's still really hard but the size of a pea now, there is no pain there, it doesn't move but it's definitely there. I don't have any other sign of infection. I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? I've never had a swollen lymph node in my groin before. I know it can be a sign of something serious as well as sign of something not serious but It's not something people talk about. Heamotology will be in touch soon so I'm not sure wether they will want to see me if the lump has gone down. But I would love to know what is causing it lol. Thank you for reading xx

  • Hello E2244xxx

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some health issues recently. It's good to know that you've already seen your GP and that the blood tests didn't show any cause for concern.

We know that waiting for tests and results can be a difficult time and it's understandable that you're feeling anxious. Anxiety by itself can cause many of the feelings of fatigue that you describe but often it can help to talk to someone. I wonder if you might find it beneficial to have a chat with one of our team of nurses whilst you're still waiting for your Consultant appointment. I'm sure they would be able to give you some support and advice in the meantime. If you'd like to chat with them they're available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Jenn,

thank you so much for your reply, I think your right anxiety has a lot to do with how I'm feeling. I'm keeping myself busy and the phone call with heamotology will soon come around. Il update when I know what's next. Thank you so much for the advice I think that will be a great help to talk to someone xx

  • Hi just an update-

heamotology want me to go in for more bloods and and a scan on my groin. Because the lump has gone down they said inless I was really nervous they don't need to do a full ct scan. They are just going to check my lymph nodes in my groin for now. Will keep you updated with any news xx

  • hi. my friend had a swollen lymph node in her groin and it did turn out to be cancer BUT the lump never went down - it gradually grew over time. You can get a swollen lymph node from somethign really minor like an ingrowing hair or a spot etc - i can get a swollen lymph node from overshaving my armpit! Hopefully all will be ok x

  • Hi jo,

thanks so much for your reply! That's made me feel a lot better,

mine has gone down even more it's sooo tiny although I can still feel it's different to the other side of my groin, the fact it's gone down is good news. I have noticed a slight bump in my armpit though but I've had some more blood tests done yesterday I will have the results soon. I will push it if the blood tests come back clear just because of the little lump in my armpit.
I feel silly like I'm being paranoid but I just know you can't be too careful or have the mentally of 'it won't happen to me'

I will keep you all updated xx

  • Hi I just wanted to update this post,

I went for my ultrasound and the doctor wasn't concerned and told me it didn't look like a swollen lymph node, all my lymph nodes were the right size. Anyway my bloods have come back all clear the lump has completely gone and heamotology have discharged me So I have no idea what it actually was but I'm happy that they did what they could and it's made me more aware to always get any lumps checked out.

  • Hi [@E2244xxx]‍ . How long did it take to go down since you first found it? Thanks!

  • Hi Fran, I would say around 4 weeks. Never actually found out what it was but it was nothing serious and went away on its own xx
