Lumpy and painful breast/armpit

Hi

i have been suffering with a sore/painful left breast and armpit for about 3 months. I have gained a some weight over lock down and my breast have gone up in size, so I thought it was my ill fitting bras etc. I have just had a doctors appointment who could feel the texture was more bumpy than the other breast and a bit tender. But the poor doctor was so rushed I was in and out within minutes. So never discussed any options for why. I have been referred to the breast clinic for a scan but I've got to admit I'm in pieces and really worried. I'm trying not to google stuff but it's hard not to. Any advice or stories which might help me see it's not automatically cancer?

  • Hello Olwen99,

I had lumps under my armpit that kept swelling and going down and I also have one known fibroadenoma which is a benign (non cancerous) lump. When I visited my GP last week, she also examined my breast said she can feel more lumps than the 1 fibroadenoma I had. I also have been referred to the breast clinic. Pleased do not worry and try to keep your mind positive ( I know it is very hard as I am struggling to do this myself..). I am currently waiting for my breast clinic appointment but you have to keep mind that breast tissue may be effceted by a lot of things such as hormones, menstural cycle and milk ducts etc. According to the protocol you should be seen within 2 weeks of the referral. I hope everything goes well for you.

  • Thank you so much, yes she said 2 weeks so fingers cross it's no longer. I suffer with sever anxiety so I am really struggling today. I don't have any particular lumps, she just said it was a lumpy texture and it was tender but she was so busy to explain what that might be so has to do lots of googling which has left me very worried. I hope all goes well with you x

  • Hi there,

Sorry to jump on the post but I have very similar symptoms and saw my GP who could also feel some lumps but I was told my referral could take upto 8 weeks but if I hear nothing after 4 weeks they will chase it up. I was already quite worried but now you're saying 2 weeks is protocol im wondering if I should query this more?

  • Honestly google just adds on my worry, I would suggest to find things to distract yourself until you receive the referral letter. All the best x

  • I think there is guidelines where doctors decide the urgency level of your condition depending on your symptoms, age, how long you had the lump for, other conditions you have etc. I would suggest to wait until you receive the referral letter. I hope everything goes well for you x

  • I went through the same thing late last year. My breasts hurt so bad and there was a lump. I had two biopsies and it turned out benign both times. It could be a hormonal thing as well, but please get yourself checked so you can be certain.
