Needing some advice about mum

Hi everyone, I'm new here and was hoping some of you maybe able to give some advice or shed some light through your own experience.

My mum is 53 and is a long term Smoker. But generally fit and well. In January she contacted her local GP complaining of a sore side especially when coughing. Due to Covid she was only able to get a phone consultation. He diagnosed her with a pulled muscle and give a cream to apply. Fast forward to May she returned to doctor now having chest, spine, hip and chest pain. The pain is constant and even at rest is sore. They GP sent her for chest xray and the results showed something on or near 9th rib. She is now booked in for a Ct scan. I am terrified it may be lung cancer as her father died of lung cancer and also her half sister of breast cancer. Sorry for the long winded post. But anyone with any similar experiences able to give some advice? TIA

  • Hello Roja,

I'm sorry your mum has had these pains. There's no way of knowing what the problem is until further tests are done, so I hope her scan goes ok and that she gets the results soon. You can read more about CT scans here

When you are worried about cancer, it can be natural to think the worst, but this can end up increasing anxiety rather than making you feel better. And the only person that can diagnose her is her doctor.

    I hope this is helpful,

  • Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately mum was diagnosed with lung cancer. And had an urgent scan on her hip. I'm devistated for her. Now waiting to see what the consultant/lung clinic has to say on Wednesday 23rd June. They should also have her hip x-ray results by then. I will hopefully be aloud in with her to the consultation appointment. I'm nervous and have no idea the kinds of things that will be discussed anyone have any advise.
