Breast clinic - can’t take anyone with me

Hi,

I am 24 years old and found a large ish lump in my breast. I drove to the GP Thinking it was nothing but the GP has referred me to the breast clinic due to the size and my grandmother having both breasts removed due to BC.

My GP thinks it's most probably calcium but that of course has not stopped me worrying. I have ocd and a phobia of needles so the last couple of days has been awful with anxiety. I have my appointment on Tuesday but been told that I have to go alone, has anyone else experienced this?

If the worst happens will I be allowed someone with me whilst I am told?!

thank you x

  • Hi my lovely.

It's  such a worrying time I know. I went on my own for the first appointment. It was all pretty straight forward and luckily not much waiting around. I had an examination. Then a mammogram. Then an ultrasound followed by a biopsy. All the staff were brilliant. Talked me through everything. I'm 48 but this was my first experience of this.

The clinic I am under has a standard two week wait time for results if a biopsy is taken. I could be wrong but I think even if they suspect cancer they cannot completely diagnose it until they've carried out a biopsy and tested it. You may not need a biopsy etc. But if you have one they will likely ask you to make a follow up results appointment.

I was told I could take someone with me for my results. I took one of my best friends.

I know it's easy to say. But try not to worry. Your appointment is soon which is good. The worst bit for me was the waiting. I felt like I was going crazy so I do know how you feel.

    Sending love. Sarah xxx
