I found a lump...

Hi everyone

I'm brand new to this site, stumbled across it while researching breast lumps.

I have found a hard lump in my right breast, about a cm or so, give or take, above my nipple. It's not painful and it doesn't move, and my right arm has been aching lately too. The reason I am posting is, I guess, for reassurance? Support? I really don't know. I just know I needed to get it out. My husband is asleep at the moment, I've only just noticed the lump, but I am absolutely petrified. I'm 37 with four children, two of which have special needs. I don't know what to do, I'm panicking! I have read a few of the other posts on here, and I have to say how amazing I think you all are, especially those going through treatment and diagnosis. I will have to call my doctor on Monday won't I? If only they were open at the weekend, I could get this seen to asap. Sorry for the long post, I just needed to tell someone, anyone

  • Hey M,

Sorry to hear this. I've just posted as needed to tell someone too, as it feels quite scary doesn't it. I saw the gp Friday after noticing a lump. Yes do call the gp tomorrow morning and get it seen to, I'm sure that will make you feel slightly better. I also have children and am the same age as you so you are not alone xxx

let us know how u get on x

  • Hi Anna,

Thank you for your kind words. I really appreciate it. It is really scary, more so not knowing what it is, whether it's harmless or not etc. How did it go at the doctors? Have they referred you for a scan or mammogram?

  • Hi My Lovely

Try not to worry.  Although I know easier said than done!

There is a big chance all will be fine but you def need to contact your GP. They may refer you to the breast clinic so it can be investigated further. That's what happened with me. The sooner you get it looked at the better.

    Sending love. Sarah xx

  • Thank you so much for replying, I do really appreciate it. I am a lot calmer than I was when I first found it, I wasn't expecting it so I'm sure it was mostly the initial shock. I know I need to be rational and book an appointment with my gp, that's the only way to put my mind at rest. I hope you're okay Sarah, sending you my love too

  • Morning,

They have referred me and she said it would be an ultrasound most likely. I have been referred non urgent though, which I'm stressing about as she said it's smooth and moveable so unlikely to be anything sinister. This hasn't stopped me worrying though as you never know do you!

hope all goes well tomorrow and you get referred too xx

  • Ah I see. Either way though, it's still worrying isn't it, like you said, you never know. That's the awful thing about it, the fear of the unknown! Thank you, I will of course keep this thread updated. My husband now knows, and he's doing his best to reassure me that it's probably nothing to worry about, but he said he will come with me if he's allowed to - covid and all that - he's also felt it, as I needed to make sure I wasn't just being paranoid. He said I'm definitely not being paranoid as he can feel what I felt. I'll make sure to ring the gp first thing and post here once I've seen the doctor

  • Hi ladies

I spoke to the doctor today. She asked me a few questions about the lump itself, and the surrounding area. Based on what I told her, she has referred me to the breast clinic. She has also prescribed some antibiotic cream for the area where the lump is, I'm not sure why, as the area is a bit red, but not causing me any pain or discomfort. She said I'll be seen within 2 weeks, and that they will contact me within the next couple of days to arrange the appointment. She also mentioned that they may prefer to take a sample with a needle instead of a mammogram. I have no idea what all of this means, she didn't explain why she'd prescribed the cream and she didn't mention what she thought it could possibly be, or whether this is an urgent referral or not. So I'm still completely in the dark and terrified.

Thought I'd update anyone following my thread

  • I'm going through a similar situation. GP referral, told it was urgent, I was told I would be seen within 2 weeks however it took 6 weeks

Went to the breast clinic on Thursday, consultant felt the lump, sent me over to the X-ray department where I had a scan, then I was told to go back a few hours later for a biopsy. They took 5 samples, now just waiting on the results. It's been a long wait and can completely understand how terrified you are!! Hope your ok and get seen quickly! X

  • Hi I have just discovered a hard pea shaped lump only 4 months after a clear mammogram, but I also have the achy arm. I have been referred urgently and have a hospital date in early June - the best they can do. Keep your chin up - you are young - whatever it is you will get through it. Get your appointment sorted quickly.

  • Hi Honey

So pleased you have spoken to your Dr. That is definitely the first important step. The thing is you will worry about everything she has said. It's only natural and a horrible place to be. So good you feel able to share on here too. That definitely helps me.
I was seen within a week and a half from GP referral. So nice and quick. If she mentioned a 2-week timescale that usually means the urgent referral pathway. This doesn't mean you should automatically fear the worst though. This is quite a normal procedure I've come to learn!
I had numerous tests one of which was a needle biopsy as the mammogram and ultrasound picked up a large lump in my left boob.
I know the waiting it hideous. But, once you get to the clinic, if anything like my experience, it was ok. They talked me through everything they were doing and why. They also shared the screen with me during the ultrasound. The biopsy was fine too. A little uncomfortable at the time and I was a bit sore and bruised for a few days after.
They are so knowledgeable there. In some cases they can tell exactly what it is from the tests they do there. Sometimes they need to investigate further with a biopsy.
You are now in the system as it were, and from here you will hopefully get some definite answers within the next few weeks.
Sending my love. Feel free to keep in touch xxx
