How do I cope with not knowing what's going on?

Hi, looking for advice for coping with the not knowing.  I had what I thought at the time was an xray to help treat my asthma.  1 day after the xray the hospital called and asked me to go for a CT scan the next  morning.  Obviously by now I'm suspecting something is quite serious as hospitals don't ring and get you in for a CT scan next day for no reason! So 2 days after that I speak to a GP from my surgery who told me he had ordered the xray as I had a persistant cough and breathless, that he had seen the request for a CT scan due to a shadow of concern on the xray.  I now have an appointment in General medicine for 2 weeks time?  I'm so confused, am I waiting to find out if I have cancer or not? All signs point to this I just wondered if other people had been through the same and advice for coping with the waiting ....

  • Hello DeedeeK,

Waiting for results is one of the hardest things as many on our forum will know only too well. I can understand why you are feeling so worried at the moment and having to wait two weeks for answers can feel like a lifetime. Unfortunately it is impossible really to know for sure what these results might be or what they point towards as there could be so many possible explanations. The only thing you can do really is wait and it really isn't an easy thing to do. Try and keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking anything up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. There are helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine. Do let us know if you get a chance what you find out.

    Best wishes,
