Bleeding red blood from anus, pain & clots

Hi! I've been experiencing IBS for years, manageable with buscopan and avoiding certain foods, stress etc. Over the last year it's been every day without fail, excruciating adominal pain even when I haven't ate anything. I have more loose stools than normal. I bleed very heavily every time. I spoke to the doctor, they checked I had no haemorrhoids, piles or cuts. Her hands had blood on after an internal check. Sent me for a colonoscopy the next week. However the next day I ended up in a&e as I bled whilst just sat on the sofa. No blood on there hands this time after an internal and sent away after some fluids. Doctor said I should have had a blood transfusion by my appearance & symptoms but bloods came back fine apparently. Told to wait for the colonoscopy and was sent home. Eventually had colonoscopy, 13 biopsies taken, got an all clear?!. Still bleeding, I'm not straining, I'm not constipated, the bowl is full of red blood and when I wipe it's dark clots. I have a healthy diet I don't eat much really out of fear of the attacks. I don't know where to turn too now as a colonoscopy is usually the answer is it not? I'm in pain and feel tired from the blood loss, I'm a mum of 3 young children so I need my energy back. Any advice would be really helpful. I just feel like I'm getting no where with the gp and I'm worried.

  • So my husband has very similar symptoms to you. Was processed through the 2 week pathway after a positive FIT test - had bloods, ultrasound, MRI and Colonoscopy. It turned out he has divicular disease - he has bouts of severe bleeding evey 6 weeks or so and often bleeds through his clothes when sitting/laying down. Has a good diet etc so and it has continued so he's been rereferred to the bowel consultant to see if there is anything they can do to help. May be worth a follow-up with your GP and demand this?
