Found a lump today I’m devastated

Hi I stumbled on this site by accident looking for any information about breast lumps. I found a lump last week and went to the doctors today hoping she'd say there's nothing there but she didn't she found it too and she said it could be fatty tissue. I came out in floods of tears and just want to cry all the time . I'm 59 and have been on hrt about 3 years ( not anymore I'm not taking it again) she's referring me and said I should see someone in the next 2 weeks . What's the chance it's breast cancer ? Thank you

  • Hi big hugs to you,

I too have recently found a lump as well. I'm 38 and have 3 young children. I saw GP and she has put me in for the referral to the breast clinic.

Trying to remain positive but it is difficult isn't it?

Anyhow just wanted to send you a massive hug and to let you know that you are not alone x

Hi to All of you above,

I notice that you are all either at the investigative or in the early stages of your cancer journeys and I  just want to reassure you that this is one of the most worrying stages, as there are so many unknowns. It is a fact that only 1 person in every 8 referred to the breast clinic will get a cancer diagnosis, as not all lumps are cancerous. Many people have naturally lumpy breasts, benign cysts or fibrotic changes.

I was one of the unlucky ones 11 years ago, when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Like you, I had all sorts of dark thoughts. I had a lumpectomy, followed by Tamoxifen. A year later I discovered another lump in the same breast and had a double mastectomy, followed by 6½ years of Letrozole.

Surgery and treatment are all 'doable' and I continue to live a busy and fulfilled life. I have also seen my 2 children leave school, go to university, graduate, find gainful employment and have families of their own. I guess what I'm saying is that there is still light at the end of the tunnel, even when you get the news that nobody wants to hear, so please dont give up hope.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
